I took advantage of some in-between time on the calendar and a clear morning with fall in the air to visit the nearby Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. Just 20 minutes from home, it’s a go-to target for these opportunistic bird and camera walks. I stayed on the seasonal trail, which closes on September 30, and found a wide variety of birds perched, in and near the water, and in flight. For comparison, here are some photos from a visit around the same time in 2022.

Fantastic, especially the water and egrets, so much texture.
