Guanajuato Mexico, Spring 2026, Part 1: Birds!

We saw many wonders on our first visit to this part of Mexico: the starkly beautiful geography, the many layers of history, the blend of influences in the architecture and society, the kind people we met, the delicious food … and so many birds! Some were familiar, many we had never encountered before. We saw birds native to desert habitats, mountain birds, city birds, and thanks to dams and reservoirs, waterfowl.

Here is a gallery of some of my favorite bird photos from this trip.

Oh my! What a cool selection. Some are familiar and some I have never seen. That flycatcher is one I have been wanting to see for so long. Lucky you! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, some cool birds, and lots of interesting bird behavior. Watching the nesting Egrets was amazing — long after I decided I had more than enough photos of them, I still couldn’t stop watching the process.

Glad to share it all with you!
