We saw many wonders on our first visit to this part of Mexico: the starkly beautiful geography, the many layers of history, the blend of influences in the architecture and society, the kind people we met, the delicious food … and so many birds! Some were familiar, many we had never encountered before. We saw birds native to desert habitats, mountain birds, city birds, and thanks to dams and reservoirs, waterfowl.

This female Vermillion Flycatcher really liked the rooftop water tanks.
She especially liked her reflection in the stainless steel.
