Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, June 2024

On the way to my treatment for a case of Accordion Acquisition Syndrome (see Nancy’s post for more info), we stopped at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. Every visit is different; after the wintry cold of our first visit, and the mild spring visit this past March, this time the highlights were baby ducks and juvenile eagles; mammals, amphibians, and insects; and of course the songbirds. The place is feeling more familiar, too. At three hours driving time each way, it’s at the edge of a comfortable day trip. But it’s definitely a place I intend to visit often.
