Japanese Garden, January 2025

I don’t have many photos of the Portand Japanese Garden in the wintertime. I enjoy all the seasons there, but the cold and wet of winter is not friendly to camera work. Someday I would love to capture pictures of the Garden in snow; but its hilly elevation makes access especially challenging those days.

This year, a string of clear cold days seemed inviting (as inviting as freezing temperatures can be), so I set out at sunrise, stopping for the mountain views from Council Crest on my way.

I thought my next stop was the Garden, but I caught a glimpse of Mt. St. Helens from the road, and had to stop for an unplanned photo.

Looking north at the Fremont Bridge from SW Portland, with its steel arch supporting its long span. In the background is Mt. St. Helens covered in snow; I think that's a distant Mt. Rainier barely visible to the left of St. Helens.

Nancy met up with me at the Japanese Garden , and we enjoyed the quiet member hours and the icy scenes, followed by a much warmer visit to their Kintsugi exhibition in its final days. The morning was capped with tea and treats at the cafe. No food pics here; perhaps Nancy will post one later.
