I had some in-between time yesterday after dropping Nancy off in the Costco parking lot, so I bundled up and put on my mud boots and explored one of the nearby urban wetlands. Fanno Creek is a tributary of the Tualatin River that runs through urban and suburban Washington County, and the local governing agencies have done an admirable job protecting and creating access to the creek and surrounding wetlands. For this outing, I walked through Greenway Park, across the water from the Koll Center Wetlands I visited in the summer of 2022. The creek side of the path was mostly submerged, ceding some of the disc golf holes to perchers and paved pathways to waders. The high side of the park was filled with strollers and dogs and their associated people, enjoying a chilly break in the wet weather. A lovely balance of suburb and nature, with Costco at a safe distance.
